STRINDBERG VS YOUSSEF

In conjunction with the 150th anniversary of Nordiska Museet, Stockholm, the museum presents an encounter between August Strindberg (1849-1912) and Daniel Youssef (born 1975). Strindberg’s painting Vågen VIII (The Wave VIII) is showcased in the midst of a labyrinth by Youssef, where his translation of Strindberg’s Inferno sets the tone. Strindberg meets Youssef and their practices, use of language and meaning, creates a maze for the viewer to enter into. Daniel Youssef has produced new works exclusively for this presentation.

Nordiska Museet has published a catalogue in conjunction with the exhibition, with texts by, among others, Dan Wolgers and Mustafa Can. The exhibition runs august 2024.
